Experience
In 2015, Nina started working full-time remote editor and writer, beginning her freelance career as an Editorial Project Manager for The Culture Trip. In her work on the Neighborhoods Project, on which she became the longest running project manager, she helped create an effective hiring system, assigned articles, managed teams of 10-12 interns, and expanded the overall project. Nina has also dedicated her time to pop culture coverage. That same year, she launched (Pop) Culturally Informed, a pop culture blog of her own creation that she runs with two other contributors where she recaps shows like Game of Thrones and covers awards shows. She also spent over two years working for Bustle’s mobile app as a content curator.
In late 2018, she began writing for Looper, an entertainment & pop culture website, for which she covered the entire final season of Game of Thrones across a large number of features as well as plenty of other film and television content. In the summer of 2019, she joined Looper’s news team, reporting on entertainment news as quickly as possible with the rest of the team and covering events like the Academy Awards, San Diego Comic-Con, the Primetime Emmy Awards, and more. Many of her pieces, including her news reports, have been turned into short videos.
At the end of 2021, Nina pivoted to video work at Static, writing scripts and appearing in original content from the brand, including The Looper Show and Okay, So Basically. In April of 2022, she became a Digital Content Producer at Looper, overseeing Facebook exclusive Everything Marvel and Okay, So Basically on both Snapchat and YouTube. Ultimately, she returned to writing in April of 2023, writing personal essays, opinion pieces, collaborative articles, and news pieces for Looper. She has also written for The Messenger, working on both their TV and podcast verticals.
Aside from work, in early 2020, Nina moved to France to pursue a Master’s degree in Creative Writing (Fiction) at University of Kent’s Paris School of Arts and Culture. She received a Master of Arts in November 2021 with merit and returned to the United States in December of 2021 after navigating Paris through several lockdowns.
Beyond that, Nina currently spends her time hanging out with her toy Australian shepherd, working on a novel she’ll probably never finish, trying every whiskey that exists, and watching the full gamut of TV, from Fleabag to Vanderpump Rules (which, honestly, are more similar than you might think).
Nina is currently available for freelance work, so if you want to work with her, ask about her favorite whiskey, or talk about dogs, email her at nstarner@gmail.com or find her on Twitter.
